How to generate language from a topic – a practical example

Abstract

In April I ran a webinar where we discussed the way in which language should be generated from a topic and that the topic should be the starting point, rather than the grammar or functional language. After the session a number of people contacted me saying that although they had enjoyed the session they were still a bit unsure as to how a topic could be exploited in the way I had described and that it would be great to be given a complete breakdown – a practical example from start to finish – so here we are.

In this webinar we’ll look at exactly how a topic-driven lesson can be created, how language can emerge from the topic and how this can be part of a structured, meaningful lesson. The webinar will take a step-by-step approach and will show how two or three fifty-word texts can be enough to generate around five to six hours' worth of teaching and learning.

Don’t worry if you were unable to make the first webinar - although this one is a direct result of comments arising from the last, it will be a complete session in its own right with some time left at the end for questions.

Hope to see you online on 31st May.
