Don’t Waste my Time! Keeping Adult Students with You

Adult students often have an idea of what their goals are. They want results now, but they don’t know what they need to do to get them! When the going gets tough, do our students keep working or do they give up? Here, we will cover strategies to help students prioritize English, move towards long-term goals and trust the teacher’s expertise along the way!

Thomas Wiseman, Macmillan ELT consultant, teacher trainer. B.A., University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, TESL Certificate from the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute, academic director of the English Language school "English Connection". Tom Wiseman is the co-founder and Director of Studies at English Connection Language Center in Saint-Petersburg. In addition to his work in the classroom, Tom works with teachers to develop and experiment with innovative methods to efficiently automate spoken and written English.

The fine line between listening and understanding: the power of implying in English

In this talk, we are going to take a look at communication skills we teach our students through our English lessons. We know that "how we say" is as important to "what we say" to carry our message across effectively. This applies to the personal and professional relationships, as well as to the oral, written or online communication our students will experience throughout their lives. Our language lessons are an ideal area for our students to learn, practice and develop these communication skills. Together, we will take a look at a few of these soft skills present in our lessons, as well as activities and strategies to practice and develop these in our students."

Antoine Marcq, Macmillan ELT consultant, teacher trainer, co-Founder of the English connection school and Resource Education.

Meeting the needs of adult students

The workshop will examine some of the most significant challenges adult students face and show practical ways we can try to help them to overcome challenges.
